max

We just wanted to let you all know how Max is doing.

Max was almost 5 months old when we adopted him from Great Lakes Lab Rescue. He was with a foster family for about a month, and they did a wonderful job training him.

He is a wonderful new addtion to our family, who likes to steal our socks and take the ornaments off of the Christmas tree. He enjoys long walks and playing fetch in the yard. He is great with our kids and loves to cuddle up next to us.

We are glad to have him as a part of our family. Thanks Great Lakes!

sammy

We lost our beloved Hud, a 120 lb. chocolate lab on September 3, 2009. Our original plans were to wait, but we were contacted to see if we could foster Sammy.  We not only fostered, but we adopted!

It’s been three weeks now and we just love Sammy. He knows “come here”, “sit”, “no!, “stay”, and we are working on “down”.  He walks well on a leash, and goes for at least two walks a day. He never attempts to steal food or get on the counters or get in the garbage. He was at the county dog park this morning and has a blast running with all the other dogs.  My husband said the other day, “This may turn out to be the best dog we ever had!”

Our former dog, Hud, had a lot of memories attached to our son, Augie, who passed away nearly four years ago when he was only 21.  Our pleasant experience with Sammy has given us something positive to keep focused on. We’ve not only helped Sammy, but he has helped us!  We know Augie and Hud are happy for Sammy & us!

princessbailee

Thought I would send you a picture of Bailee wearing her tiara sitting next to her "bedazzled" food/water bowls. She plays the princess part quite well....who would have known after spending most of her life outside in a dog run! She has OFFICALLY become my dad's shadow and loves her visits with him out to the hanger at the airport especially when her lab friend Snoopy is out there to play with her. I think my folks plan on giving her her first airplane ride very soon!

boomer

I was knocking ice sickles off of an upper roof today and the first one I touched with my 25 foot pole fell and hit me in the head, knocked me to my knees and put a gash in my head. While I was trying to gather my senses, Boomer went and got Betsy and led her back to my predicament. While lying on the couch later on trying to get my head to stop bleeding, you can see that Boomer was trying to comfort me. What a dog! We are so lucky to have found him. Thanks!

shadow

I just wanted to give you a guys a quick update on "Miley" now know as Shadow. She will be celebrating her 1st Birthday on 12-26. I can't believe it! She is the most lovable dog you could ever ask for, I means she just gives kisses and cuddles like they are going out of style. Shadow is also very very intelligent, I know this goes along with the breed, but she is just amazingly smart. Shadow has adapted very well to her big brother Charlie our Chocolate Lab, and her two kitty cat brothers. All Charlie and Shadow do is play together. Shadow is a perfect fit for our family. I'm so glad that we were given the opportunity to adopt such a wonderful dog. Especially because I know that you guys don't just give puppies out to just anyone who asks. Thanks again.

cody

Hello, my name is Cody. I'm said to be about 10-11 months old. Those months of my life I have been told were challenging. I was not taken care of very well to say the least. Food and water were not adequately provided and I became rather emaciated. On top of that my owners separated and then placed me on a chain outdoors to be forgotten. I then became pound bound and had a death sentence. The nice folks at GLLR took me into their organization. After only a few days at my foster home, I became very ill and wouldn't even eat or drink, not even my favorite toy, a ball, was enticing! It was then discovered that I had Parvo-Virus, on top off just being neutered....to say the least I was in bad shape and it was uncertain in the beginning if I would even pull through. However, I made it and boy am I ever glad. My forever home now supplies me with food, water, toys and most importantly unconditional love......I love having my belly rubbed and the back of my ears scratched. My favorite game is playing fetch with a ball, even at 3 A.M.. I have even learned that I like to walk around the block. I'm a very loving and generous dog. I'm so gratefull for the folks at GLLR and my new adoptive owners for giving me a second chance and enabling me to discover the positive aspects of life. Thank you for your kindness!

cooper

I wanted to give you an update on My boy Cooper I adopted from Great Lakes. He is doing well and I have him involved with dock diving. He is a natural at it. He is still full of energy and very immature compared to my Female when she was his age, but we know it's like that with every Male and Female of all Species.  LOL.... We love him so much. He is such a snuggle dog. I just can't imagine our life without him. He makes us laugh everyday.

I attached some pics of him I had taken at the house and  at the dock diving competition. He won  2nd place in the Junior Division on his first day with a jump of 14ft 11".

As always if you need anything and I can help I will.

I wanted to attach a picture of Bailey "working" with residents and invite you to her "Bailey Bow Wow Bash" at her place of employment.  Her salary is pets and dog treats.  The activities department is putting it on.

Bailey remains a miracle.  She has everyone firmly in her paw, even the executive director, whose office she likes to frequent.  She follows me around off lead all day except for an occasional nap time in  my office.  She had a bath day today with a dog-loving Alzheimer's resident who was thrilled to be involved.  One resident of the nursing home section just beams whenever Bailey is within sight.  I carry small treats with me to coax her up to residents who are unable to call her or pet her very well.

This is such a testament to the notion that there is a place for every dog.  The vet called her a "train wreck" but I know she's not.  Just a few geriatric problems that can be managed.  She's perfect for me and KB.  We have one resident who is past member of the board of the Chicago humane society and has donated many thousands of dollars to the society over the years.  She wanted to make sure she could come to Bailey's party.  I tell everyone I meet about where Bailey came from.

We adopted "Buster" now known as Barley last Sunday. Wanted to let you know he is doing great. He has adjusted wonderfully to his new home and loves the kids. He is still chasing my cats but I think that will change in time.

He is a great dog with a huge heart. He loves to play in the yard with my 7 year old son and loves to sleep in his crate. He has a toy box full of chew and squeeky toys that he loves. Thank you for letting us adopt Barley he has brought such joy into our home.

scout

Scout is a great dog, we just finished obedience school where he passed last in his class...mostly my fault for not practicing the sit/stay and down/stay enough with him.  The teachers think he just doesn't like being left behind, which is very true.  Apparently he was crate trained at some point because once I got a crate, I said Scout, Kennel and he went right in.  All 3 of my kids, including the 3 year old can get Scout into his kennel without a problem.

He loves to run and play fetch--usually keep away, and we have a very large ball that he has actually gotten up on where none of his legs were touching the ground.  I tried to get some video footage of that but was not quick enough.  He can jump up on our trampoline and I see him up there even when the kids are not outside.  He's a bit of a character.  Loves almost all dogs and nearly all people and is pretty good with the cats too.
